So what's so good about Dundee, then?

Dundee is renowned for its expertise in digital media and creative industries. More than 350 businesses in the sector, employing more than 3,300 people, are currently based in Dundee and the surrounding area generating a combined annual turnover in excess of £185 million.

And what's this Seabraes Yard all about?

Seabraes is one of five zones that make up the Dundee Waterfront. Dundee Waterfront is a £1 billion project spanning 240 hectares of land stretching 8km along the River Tay. It is the second largest regeneration project in Scotland and one of the top twenty such projects in the UK.

The idea is that Seabraes will become the centre of Dundee’s creative industries. It is within walking distance of the proposed V&A at Dundee, the University of Dundee/Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee Contemporary Arts and the University of Abertay Dundee.

Seabraes is also home to the award winning Dundee Science Centre.

So Building 01 is the first building to open at District 10, right?

Right. Building 01 has been built for businesses in the creative industries - ideally for those within the early stages of growth. It's going to be a great environment for creative companies to establish themselves and make new connections. It’s thought that after 24 months these companies may look to move on to other premises allowing other early stage businesses to make use of the space.

  • Building 01 is made from 37 recycled shipping containers, housing 15 lettable office units, over 3 floors
  • The building has a striking appearance - 36 of the containers form the offices with one turned on its end to form the entrance lobby
  • Each unit provides comfortable furnished space for up to four people
  • Of the 15 lettable units, 14 are 412 square feet and one is 335 square feet

Luxury luggage company LAT_56 have taken the first spot. They make modern, minimalists bags and accessories for professional cityhoppers. 

Kevin Fox, founder and managing director of LAT_56, said, “We were looking for a new creative space in Scotland to HQ our design, marketing and sales activities. When we noticed the unique District 10 development via Scottish Enterprise it fitted our requirements perfectly.
