Although these calls are now closed Scottish Enterprise can never claim to have seen all worthwhile project ideas. If you have a project idea that fits with these past calls please bring it to our attention via our innovation support service

Call one: Asset integrity and reliability

Our first call looked at innovative projects addressing challenges around asset integrity and reliability.

One of the major challenges facing the oil and gas industry today is to ensure the safe operation of their ageing assets. There are more than 6,700 platforms in operation around the world.

On average, 30 percent have been in operation for more than 20 years and many of these are operating beyond their original design.

Call two: Well integrity

Our second call looked for innovative project ideas addressing issues around well integrity, including:

  • Tree and wellhead failures and maintenance
  • Downhole safety valve issues
  • Annuli integrity management
  • Tubing repair

Call three: Improved reservoir imaging

Around the world, exploration activity has moved into more complex geological environments.

The characterization of a reservoir is important with respect to understanding fluid flow within the reservoir - relating large scale properties of the reservoir to detailed characterization of rock properties remains a major challenge. Improvements are needed in all techniques that will contribute to better understanding and more informed decision making.

Therefore improved reservoir imaging will be a key requirement for extending the productive life of the UK continental shelf (UKCS) and innovative solutions have the potential to attract customers worldwide.
