What's the challenge?

Subsea 7 are looking for non intrusive technologies or techniques that will allow them to monitor the cathodic protection system in marine environment. The technology should be able to function from 50 metres above sea level to 3000 metres water depth. It also needs to understand the high level condition (wall thickness loss, areas of corrosion) of the integrity of the subsea infrastructure (pipelines and structures).

Do you have the solution?

An ideal solution would involve:  

  • Data that confirms the infrastructure is gaining adequate protection from the installed system
  • Ability to detect wall thickness deterioration
  • Screening capability rather than point location – though both will be considered
  • Has to be non intrusive
  • Options for deployment include diver, ROV, Autonomous Vehicles and standalone sensors

Evaluation criteria

Considered solutions must be able to:

  • Accurately detect field gradients at water depths from 50 metres above sea level to 3000 metres water depth
  • Be non intrusive (for example, from external to pipe or structure)
  • Provide in situ results
  • Measure field gradient and detect areas of corrosion and determine wall thickness of pipelines
  • Have data that can be automated rather than requiring manual processing
