Why export your food and drink product to China?

China is the world’s second largest consumer market with a population of 1.44 billion. It has a world class infrastructure and a growing middle class demanding premium food and drink products. This is ideal for Scottish producers to target as an export destination.

China is expected to import more than £71 billion worth of foods in 2021. There is a rapid growth of fresh food and premium grocery E-commerce marketplaces and interest in retail and food service trends across Asia and the world.

In addition, there is a demand for natural and well-sourced foods with a strong desire for British and western goods. Scottish companies are well suited to match this demand.

How to take part in the China International Import Expo

Scottish Development International is offering a platform for Scottish companies to build their international business at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) that runs from 5-10 November 2021.

Last year, 400,000 registered trade buyers attended the trade show from all over China. The majority were led by provincial government departments. It also welcomed 612,000 visitors, 3,000 domestic and foreign journalists and representatives from 69 countries.

The Scottish stand will allow Scottish companies to showcase their products. The SDI China team will represent brands and communicate with trade buyers within the retail and food service sectors as well as any media in China. They will also make use of their existing relationships with supermarket chains, department stores, importers and distributors nationwide.

Tasting and Sampling events for Scottish brands will also be held. This will attract trade buyers and secure national media coverage.
