The Netherlands: offshore wind export opportunities
Market opportunity: Offshore wind
Key details
Opportunity: Offshore wind
Country: Netherlands
Sector: Energy
Summary
The Dutch government wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 95% by 2050, driven by the large-scale generation of sustainable energy by offshore wind turbines.
Projections by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) estimate that this transition will require between 11.5 GW and 18.6 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030 and between 35 GW and 75 GW by 2050.
Scale of opportunity
At the end of 2020, there were six offshore wind farms in operation with 365 turbines generating 1.1 GW.
The expansion targets for new wind farms are: 2.6 GW by 2022, 4.5 GW by 2023 and 11GW by 2030.
Tenders have already been planned for another eight wind parks which will be awarded between now and Q4 2025.
