These common errors can cause huge issues in the supply chain and stop you from completing your exports. Follow our guidance to avoid making mistakes in your Transit Declarations.
Common mistakes in transit declarations
Incorrect: Using one LRN instead of multiple LRNs for each declaration. This has resulted in drivers being held at transit offices in the EU.
Correct: If all of the consignments being transported across the border are under one transit declaration, use 1 x LRN (Local Reference Number).
If multiple consignments are being transported under separate transit declarations, get separate LRNs for each declaration.
Incorrect: With transit customs declaration, the Office of Transit field (Box 51 of the C88) has been filled out incorrectly by multiple traders. You must include every Office of Transit on the way to the destination.
Correct: When declaring the Office of Transit, you must include every Office of Transit on the way to your destination. When entering multiple customs territories, you must ensure to list every single port of entry to avoid your goods being held by customs.
Incorrect: Using the MRN (Movement Reference Number) from the Export Accompanying Documents. This has resulted in goods being held at port.
Correct: You must use the MRN from the Transit Accompanying Document (TAD).
