Innovation will be vital to Scotland's electrical power transmission and distribution networks, and their ability to handle the ever changing demands of new and diverse generation methods, as well as variations in consumption.
Products, processes and services developed by Scottish companies have the opportunity to sell into a global market that has been estimated to reach £24 billion by 2020 and - taken over the period 2011-2020 - has been estimated at approximately £185 billion.
How we can help
To help Scottish companies maximise this, Scottish Enterprise - working with Highlands and Islands Enterprise and other partners - has been running a series of funding calls to support smart grid innovation.
Each call focused on a different aspect of smart grid innovation - see past calls for more information.
At present there are no open calls and our Energy Systems team are still to discuss plans and topics for future calls with stakeholders.
