The combination of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) with CO2 enhanced oil recovery (EOR) can benefit the Scottish oil and gas industry and our wider economy
Our "Economic impacts of CO2 enhanced oil recovery for Scotland" study assesses the potential for CO2-EOR in the North Sea.
The study explores:
- The impact of CO2-EOR on the development of CCS
- The impact on the wider economy
- The challenges to CO2-EOR deployments
- Ways of maximising the economic benefits for Scotland
19 oilfields in the UK Continental Shelf are identified as being attractive "anchor" projects for CO2-EOR, with a combined potential incremental oil recovery of one billion barrels by the time EOR is a reality.
It is estimated that achieving the highest rates of EOR deployment would contribute an additional £2.7 billion GVA to the Scottish economy.
