One of the roles of the Scottish Investment Bank (SIB) is to improve the understanding of Scotland's risk finance market.
Our market intelligence work aims to provide companies and investors with market evidence as they plan for the future. This involves looking into the supply and demand for risk-based growth finance. We look at Scotland’s finance market in areas that include:
- Year-to-year changes in deal sizes
- Sector investment
- Company growth stages
- Who has been investing into Scotland’s growth companies.
We also keep up-to-date with global and UK regional trends.
Our 2016 market report is available as an example of our work. In 2016 Scotland’s risk capital market saw the highest number of investment deals on record. The 285 deals over the course of 2016 was an increase of over 30% on the year before, and an increase of 40% on the five year average from 2011 to 2015.
