Key takeaways from All-Energy

Find out what the SHINe team learned at the UK's largest low carbon energy and renewables event, All-Energy 2025, in Glasgow.

6 June 2025 | 3 minute read

All-Energy provided an excellent opportunity to talk to the wider energy sector and collaborate with SHINe and Industry Board members.

We went along as both an attendee and speaker to showcase SHINe's potential and get key insights to help inform our future.

Why did the SHINe team attend?

The event allowed us to showcase and witness Scotland’s leadership in hydrogen innovation. We were impressed by the innovations on display at the conference that will help Scotland become a global hub for hydrogen infrastructure development.

Industry events like All-Energy boost SHINe’s ability to drive forward collaborative research, pilot projects, and cross-sector partnerships that support the transition to a low carbon economy.  We also engaged with policymakers and innovators that all have a role to play to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

The event also provided valuable insights into the variety of emerging technologies and market trends in the hydrogen space. These insights will help to inform SHINe’s future direction.

Supporting hydrogen innovation

Our Project Manager James Ruel outlined SHINe’s mission in a presentation in the Hydrogen and Energy Storage Show Theatre.

James spoke about the opportunities across Scotland’s growing portfolio of innovation assets, and how SHINe is helping to promote these capabilities.

Developing the hydrogen industry in Scotland requires collaboration across the value chain, and a space for innovators to invest in the solutions needed to realise these ambitions. In the session, James promoted the SHINe initiative as a single-entry point for innovators to access the relevant resources to help take forward their ideas.

From test and validation centres to research spaces, Scottish funding pathways to universities, SHINe enables access to the support that Scotland has to offer. Attendees were particularly interested in how support brokered through SHINe dovetailed with other support available. All-Energy was a fantastic opportunity to promote these and offer support to newcomers and innovators.

Presentations at All-Energy again highlighted the importance of developing all parts of the hydrogen value chain. This will enable uptake by potential users, from production of hydrogen, through to transportation and storage and technologies which make use of hydrogen. This will be crucial to the wider uptake of hydrogen as part of the solution to achieve Net Zero.

SHINe Industry Board

At the session, where James joined speakers from Innovate UK and the Energy Technology Partnership, he also highlighted the importance of SHINe’s Industry Board.

The Industry Board brings together companies from across the Scottish hydrogen value chain and provides an opportunity to discuss the innovations needed to grow the sector.

James provided valuable insights into the Industry Board’s thoughts about commercial readiness for hydrogen. The presentation touched on hydrogen technologies that will be commercially ready in both the near-term and mid-long term. This also included a timeline of when different hydrogen innovations are likely to become commercially ready, identifying areas where collaboration is key.

How to get involved

We're looking for additional members who can help add to our impressive collection of innovation assets and hydrogen development capabilities.
