Scottish Enterprise use of AI technologies

Scottish Enterprise uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to make our work more efficient, to support our tasks, and to increase our capabilities.

Our use of AI technologies is guided by our Use of AI Policy. The policy explains how we should use AI technologies responsibly and productively toward the transformation of Scotland’s economy.

Our policy

We use AI technologies in line with our Use of AI policy. In particular:

  1. Decisions must be made by people – decisions must not be based solely on AI processing
  2. To protect our data, AI technologies must be approved before we use them for our work
  3. Generative AI outputs must be reviewed for accuracy, relevance and completeness
  4. We’re aware of the possibility of bias in AI processing and we take steps to reduce bias wherever possible
  5. We’re transparent about our use of AI, taking proportionate steps to highlight use of AI technologies where this may make a material difference to our customers, colleagues, or the public

How we use AI technologies

  • AI assistance – we use an AI-powered assistant across our work, currently Microsoft Copilot. This is one of our approved AI technologies and uses include aiding notetaking, supporting data collation and analysis, and improving time management.
  • Embedded AI technologies – our digital tools and services increasingly include AI features, some of which may be approved for use in our work. Examples can include design and search tool functions.

Personal data

Our use of AI technologies may include processing personal data. For information on how we process personal data, please see our privacy notice.
