What is account management?
Can your business demonstrate an ability to make a significant contribution to achieving a fairer, greener economy in Scotland?
If so, our account management service can help:
- Develop your business strategy
- Provide advice and support to help build strong and effective leadership and management practices
- Build a tailored support package
- Maximise available funding from business support partners in Scotland and beyond
- Introduce you to similar businesses and industry networks relevant to your future ambitions
- Connect you with specialist advisors who can help you plan and implement changes
The service can also help direct your business development and growth plans. Your account manager can support you to:
- Prepare for and attract appropriate growth investment for your business
- Improve productivity and increase innovation within the business (in products, processes, business models, and workplaces)
- Achieve international growth
- Grow and become more resilient
Is my business eligible?
You may be eligible for the service if you fit one of these descriptions:
- An entrepreneur in the early stages of developing an innovation-driven, high-growth startup or a university spin-out
- An early-stage business with:
- Ambition to scale at pace
- Ambition to raise significant external growth finance and investment
- Innovative products and services that have an international market opportunity
- An established small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) with 10 to 250 employees and a proposed business project that will:
- Improve turnover and productivity
- Have a positive impact on your regional economy
- Progress innovation in your sector in Scotland
- A large, strategically important Scottish-owned company (with more than 250 employees in Scotland) or a foreign-owned company with significant global operations

Companies in Scotland, except those based in the Highlands and Islands and South of Scotland regions.
Foreign-owned investors and Scottish-owned companies may be eligible for the account management service unless they are based in the Highlands and Islands and South of Scotland regions. The account management service is not open to all companies, but Scottish Enterprise works closely with a number of partners, including Business Gateway, innovation centres and regional incubators and accelerators, and may direct you to one of these partners if appropriate.
Please note that Scottish Enterprise do not work with companies in restricted sectors such as sub-prime lending, gambling, adult entertainment, activities with adverse impact on human rights, tobacco and locally traded services.
A company will typically be account managed for anywhere from 12 to 36 months. This is reviewed on an annual basis.
