The role
Reporting to our Team Leader for the science sector, you’ll be part of the Global Science and Technology trade team. You’ll help to deliver our trade priorities by working with a portfolio of scaling companies – primarily in the pharmaceuticals sector – looking to grow their international sales in key markets.
You’ll be a natural when it comes to close collaboration with account managers, project managers, and partners.
Your knowledge of the pharmaceuticals industry, plus a sound understanding of the principles of international trade, will help to generate deeper company engagement and fuel ambition.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialist international trade support to a portfolio of dynamic exporting companies in Scotland, building a pipeline of international trade projects
- Working in partnership with Scottish Development International overseas colleagues to identify more trade development opportunities in markets, and engage more Scottish companies in exporting and trading activity
- Supporting the delivery of domestic and international events as required
Who we’re looking for
You’ll have strong working knowledge of the life sciences sector, pharma industry, knowledge of international trade (equivalent to Institute of Export level), and experience of supporting companies to export.
You’ll also be as comfortable working independently as you are within a team, always taking a flexible, adaptable approach to your work.
You should also have:
- Previous pharma industry experience and/or technical knowledge of the sector
- An ability to support business development for a portfolio of companies
- International business development experience – especially around exports
- Well-developed project management, presentation, and communication skills
- Aptitude for working collaboratively as part of an internationally based team
- Customer relationship management skills, with high levels of confidence and credibility in dealing with senior stakeholders
Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:
- Qualifications or skills and experience at SCQF Level 9 (degree or graduate diploma) in economic development, science, or a related area
- An Institute of Export qualification (ACIT) or defined equivalent from industry experience – if you don't have one, you'll need to commit to gaining one
