The role

Our Growth Investments (GI) team is seeking a talented finance professional who’ll report to the Head of Investment Management. The role involves managing the team of four in delivering income management and forecasting, as well as financial, economic and strategic performance reporting.

This is a dynamic role in a growing and high-profile part of our organisation’s business, in which maintaining timely and accurate performance information of our investment management activities is crucial.

Our annual budget is typically £60 million to £80 million, with income of £50 million to £100 million. In March 2021, assets under management were around £423 million spread across a range of 340 businesses, including debt, equity and project finance portfolios. In addition, there are a range of investments across externally managed funds and programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Financial management – you’ll be responsible for the detailed preparation of in-year income and expenditure forecasts from across multiple public sector budget sources. This includes preparing all investment transactions, ongoing monthly management and reporting over an extensive portfolio.
  • Performance reporting – the team’s reporting function helps us to prioritise, adapt and run our investments to achieve defined targets and objectives, while helping stakeholders understand the financial, strategic, social, environmental and economic impact. Working with our finance team, you’ll advise on the operational financial management, analysis and reporting of your team’s performance.
  • Driving digitalisation – you’ll help progress the next phase of development for the team’s information management and reporting system. You’ll be the team’s first contact for wider IT initiatives across the organisation, ensuring the team’s system requirements are up to date. You’ll also help establish a road map for a new suite of reports, additional functionality and streamlined processes and procedures.
  • Managing a team – you’ll be responsible for management of three business partners and one analyst. In leading the team, you’ll focus on supporting individual development and succession planning to mirror the growth and evolving business needs of the GI team.

Who we're looking for

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

  • Experience in financial reporting and performance management in the financial services or fund management sector
  • A relevant degree with an appropriate professional qualification in accounting, reporting or business or demonstrable experience
  • Excellent report-writing skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret complex data for a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong people management skills
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a busy workload and meet deadlines
  • A track record of implementing new products and reporting regimes

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Knowledge in risk capital and investment functions
  • Public sector experience
