Be part of building Scotland’s future

At Scottish Enterprise, we’re focused on supporting Scotland’s most ambitious companies to help them innovate and scale to transform the economy.

Over the next decade, Scotland faces both significant challenges and extraordinary opportunities.

That’s why we’re focused on three bold missions:

  • Building a globally competitive energy transition industry
  • Scaling Scotland’s innovation strengths into high-growth industries of the future
  • Unlocking capital investment to boost productivity and create high-value jobs

To reach our goals, Scottish Enterprise is changing. We’re refocusing our leadership, people, support, networks, and partnerships across Scotland, the UK, and internationally. This will help us ensure that we’re fully focused on the transformational opportunities that can deliver a more successful, greener, and fairer Scotland.

Flexible and patient investment into Scotland’s most ambitious, high-growth and scaling companies is at the heart of our strategy. Building on our successful co-investment model, we’re building strategic investment partnerships, developing new innovative solutions to de-risk investment opportunities and identifying opportunities to attract capital to support the growth of our ambitious companies.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Investment Specialist to join the Investment Solutions Team in our Entrepreneurship & Investment Directorate.

You’ll help shape Scotland’s investment future by creating bold funding solutions that bring private money into the places it’s needed most.

That means finding new ways to support markets that are growing fast – or hard to fund – and turning smart ideas into real-world impact.

You’ll work across Scotland’s investment ecosystem, spotting funding gaps, designing new pathways, and putting joined-up, commercially viable solutions into action.

Bringing your experience in investment or funding, you’ll apply commercial insight and creativity to de-risk opportunities and help channel private capital into mission-critical areas that support Scotland’s economic priorities.

Join us, and you’ll be part of a mission-driven team focused on driving inclusive, sustainable economic growth. You’ll work on high-impact projects that make a real difference, backing innovation, accelerating business growth, and helping build a more resilient, dynamic economy for Scotland.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with colleagues and stakeholders, identify systemic funding gaps and capital challenges facing high-growth businesses in emerging and hard-to-fund sectors.
  • Co-creating innovative investment mechanisms and pathways across debt, equity and blended funded models that de-risk opportunities and help unlock private capital, aligned with our missions.
  • Leading or supporting projects from concept to execution, ensuring investment solutions are impactful, measurable, and strategically aligned.
  • Building strong, trusted relationships with investors, financial institutions, government, and ecosystem partners to drive collaboration and amplify impact.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone commercially astute and creative – with a strong understanding of investment or funding mechanisms.

You’ll enjoy tackling complex challenges and working with others to deliver real impact. You’ll bring a solid grasp of investment risk – ideally backed by experience structuring and negotiating funding or investment deals, and supported by a relevant professional qualification.

Financially literate and solutions-focused, you’ll be comfortable with ambiguity and confident building consensus and influencing senior stakeholders across both public and private sectors.

Your skills, abilities, and experience should include:

  • Strong grasp of the funding challenges facing scaling companies, especially in emerging markets
  • Financially literate, with experience structuring and negotiating commercial funding—ideally across debt and equity—and a flair for designing innovative funding solutions.
  • Understanding of economic development
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to present complex propositions and influence stakeholders through robust analysis and compelling storytelling.
  • A well connected, excellent relationship builder with strong prioritisation skills and a flexible, collaborative approach
  • Educated to SCQF Level 9 or equivalent experience in investment, banking, law, or accountancy
