Be part of building Scotland's future

Scotland’s space sector is moving quickly, combining strengths in critical technologies, satellite manufacturing, launch, Earth observation and data that will help shape our future economy. At Scottish Enterprise, our ambition goes beyond supporting the sector – helping Scotland’s space businesses innovate, scale, attract investment and compete internationally.

Within our Scaling Innovation Mission we’re building a delivery action plan that turns market insight into an investible pipeline of major, multi-partner programmes.

This role brings together the companies, technologies, investors needed to turn that potential into lasting economic impact.

The role

You’ll lead the strategic direction for the space domain in the Scaling Innovation Mission. Using your innovation and space expertise to shape high-impact programmes, you’ll build strategic partnerships that help Scotland’s space companies and the wider ecosystem to grow.

It’s a role for someone who can see where the opportunities are, bring the right partners to the table, and deliver measurable innovation and scaling outcomes.

You will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the space domain strategy and strategic action plan, setting out priorities, outcomes, measures, dependencies, risks and timelines

  • Devise, shape and mobilise major space programmes and projects, brokering partnerships and coordinating cross-functional teams and partner delivery groups

  • Build relationships across industry, investors, regulators, academia and government, representing our organisation and using insight to accelerate scaling and adoption.

Who we're looking for

The Scaling Innovation Mission works with stakeholders, funders and partners to help Scotland’s most promising technologies grow into businesses of scale. You’ll bring depth in the space sector – as well as sound judgement, a practical focus on delivery, and the confidence to build relationships across organisational boundaries.

Your skills and experience should include:

  • Experience in innovation, space technology or critical technologies, industry-facing delivery or economic development, with evidence of strategic impact
  • Knowledge of the space landscape, including market dynamics, regulation, technology trends and barriers to adoption
  • A track record of developing strategies and of originating, shaping and mobilising complex, multi-partner programmes or projects
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience of managing resources, stakeholders, governance, delivery risks and performance

How to apply

If you’re interested in this role, please complete your application form by Monday 28 September 2026.

Interview dates

Interviews will be held in the week commencing 5 October 2026.
